Waiting for food to swim by -- in the cold . .

If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 38 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might live in Wisconsin.
Ice fishing is VERY popular here in Wisconsin. We live about .5 miles from the St. Croix River, which creates a boundary between WI and MN, and every year hundreds of folks drive, snow mobile, walk out onto the river to Ice Fish. Here are some shots that I took last weekend.

The last two pictures are just a bonus!  As I was leaving the nearby lake, there was a hot baloon sinking into the horizon and then trumpeter swans flew over.  What an amazing day!

Reflecting

Vicki and I walked down to the Tara  -- about 1.4 miles down hill -- yes and 1.4 miles up hill.  There was a beautiful little monastery at the bottom and the river was just a few 100 yards away.

The water was so COLD -- I sat in it, but could not bring myself to jump in.  It was the cold that makes your feet ache!

I love this "backwards" picture of Vicki as she takes in the beauty of God's creation.

Morning Mist

Well, I just could not decide which photo to be THE ONE.  So . . . tell me, which one do you like best??
It was a beautiful morning and I was running around like crazy with camera and tripod snapping shots in the midst of making breakfast.

The Bridge

I am not sure how many pictures a person can take of one single thing, but I  think that I took a picture of this bridge every day and in every possible lighting situation possible!  We had an amazing view of the bridge from our back porch at the camp.  This photo was taken in the afternoon from the 3 floor.

Night Life

We have a friend that invited us to hear his band play at "The Steps", a local hangout for folks in the summer.  The coffee bar is at the corner of two of the rivers that run through Podgorica.  Of course,  I did not have my tripod with me, but I still like this photo.

Niagra Falls in Montenegro

There is a beautiful little canyon called "The Pipe Canyon" about 20 minutes from our house.  It is called The Pipe because in some places it is no more than 2 or 3 feet wide;  in other places, it is very wide.  In one area there is a series of waterfalls and this is one of the falls  the is off to the side of the main canyon.

Chris's Dream

On Saturday, we took a short adventurous hike on Mertvica Canyon (Dead Woman's Canyon).  I want to see the head waters of the river -- it is a relatively short canyon.  After following a trail as far as we could through thick underbrush, we gave up.  Though we did not see any snakes -- I am quite sure that there were hundreds there, we just made enough noise to scare them away!  We must try again and this time with a map!

We came across this fisherman and just loved the location that he was fishing in.  He was not having much luck, but nevertheless, he was enjoying the river.  Chris had lost the tip to his pole and has to get another one.

Water Steps

This little water fall caught our eye as we traveled up to the Tara Canyon with our friend Zhenya.  It ran into the mighty Tara river.  I love the contrast of the green moss and the white water.

It was a bit difficult to shoot and get a bit of the flowing effect -- the sun was so bright, but I managed to slow down the shutter speed to 1/20.

Old Bridge

This is an old bridge in the old section of Podgorica.  Most of the Old Town was destroyed during WWII.  This is actually a beautiful little area called The Steps and is at the intersection of two rivers -- Moracha and Ribnitsa.  The bridge is over the Ribnitsa, which dries up during the summer time.  I can't wait to go back during the spring to see all the flowers and grass.   I'm not sure the date of the building of the bridge -- I will try to look it up later.

Snow Mushrooms

Today, we were in Kolashin for a last day of skiing.  On the way down the mountain, we saw this beautiful stream with lots of snow capped rocks.  The babbling brook was so peaceful as I walked along its edge to snap a few photos.  I told Chris that I could have stayed there an hour or so because it was so peaceful.

The drive through the Moraca Canyon was beautiful.  I took several pictures, but I could not capture their majestic beauty.

Well, I went for a drive on the outskirts of town to get a picture of the mountains.  My friend Missy inspired me, but alas, I was a bit too late in the day.  Next time, I will go at noon or just after noon.  This picture was taken about 3:30 or so and as you can see, the shadows were covering the river.  This is one of my favorite places along the Moraca River here in Montenegro.

The chinaberry trees are all over Podgorica.  Chris and I went for a walk today by the Moracha River and I loved the way the light was hitting the berries on the tree.  The river was also up about 10 or 15 feet!  LOTS of rain this past week, but thankful for the sunny day!
