Waiting for food to swim by -- in the cold . .

If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 38 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might live in Wisconsin.
Ice fishing is VERY popular here in Wisconsin. We live about .5 miles from the St. Croix River, which creates a boundary between WI and MN, and every year hundreds of folks drive, snow mobile, walk out onto the river to Ice Fish. Here are some shots that I took last weekend.

The last two pictures are just a bonus!  As I was leaving the nearby lake, there was a hot baloon sinking into the horizon and then trumpeter swans flew over.  What an amazing day!

Week 16 -- Beacons

Split Rock Lighthouse on the North Shore of Lake Superior

What a fantastastic day!  The weather was rainy and cloudy, but after the rain, the blue skies came in. I wish we could have stayed for sun set.  It was interesting to see the changes in the clouds and the sun was just perfect.  We will have to get back up there sometime soon.  Fall will be beautiful there.

Storm Clouds

Last night, there was not a cloud in the sky and it was beautiful.  The weather forecast said that there would be "tons of rain" today.  Many times they are wrong, but NOT today.  We awoke to a major thunderstorm and there was rain all day -- at least a ton!

Spring

I am always amazed at the difference leaves on the trees and green grass makes.  This "lush" view is what I see when I look out my back door.  I love the green and the color of the backdrop of the mountains.

The King's Bridge

This impressive bridge was built in 1894 with the help of the Russian Tsar Alexander III. It crosses the the Zeta River just outside of Niksic.

Fishing Village

Today we went for another drive around Skadar Lake.  This little fishing village is on the way back towards Podgorica.  I must admit that I rolled down the window and shot off about five or six pictures of the village.  I have always wanted to take pictures here.  During the summer the lake in front of the village almost dries up and is covered in grass.  I really want to go and explore the area a bit more.  People say that you can get real good fish there -- we'll see.

Moonrise in Montenegro

Chris went outside this evening (5:30) and saw a beautiful moon rise.  I ran out and snapped off a few pictures.  Here is my favorite.

Yeah, I am finally caught up with photos!

Flooded Farmland

To say that Serbia got a lot of rain while we were in Bulgaria would be an understatement.  On our drive home, we passed many flooded fields and saw many rivers that were overflowing their banks.  It was strange to see the stalks of corn in the midst of all the water.

The Snow Bridge

After we left Bansko, Bulgaria, we drove over a mountain range.  Thankfully, they had just scraped the roads.  The drive was incredibly beautiful.  The is a bridge for the train.  We almost felt like we were back in Russia heading out to our dacha.  It was a wonderful drive.  We also saw folks on the side of the road selling honey, potatoes and probably wine.

Well, I went for a drive on the outskirts of town to get a picture of the mountains.  My friend Missy inspired me, but alas, I was a bit too late in the day.  Next time, I will go at noon or just after noon.  This picture was taken about 3:30 or so and as you can see, the shadows were covering the river.  This is one of my favorite places along the Moraca River here in Montenegro.

Well, not much creativity on my part today -- not feeling too great.  We have had rainy and cold weather for the past several days.  Today, I thought that the clouds were particularly pretty!
